The Unaccepted
Gift
Joy to the world,
the Lord is come.
On a street in the city one
Christmas day,
Sat a man on a bench all alone.
He hadn't a coin, or a
place to stay,
A cardboard box was his home.
Yet reaching deep in a
tattered coat,
A foil-wrapped candy to find,
And to a little girl passing
in the street,
Held forth this Christmas gift, being kind.
But oh no, said the girl, I
cannot take,
Such a gift from the likes of you.
I've been told not to talk
to strangers,
Because you don't know what strangers might do.
Joy to the world, the Lord
is come.
On a street in the city,
one Christmas day
A friendly hand knocks on a door.
In his hand, a gift in
shiny wrap.
He had walked across town from the store.
From a dim lit room
a face peered out,
A forgotten friend as he stood.
I hear the factory
closed, and we were thinking 'bout you.
We hoped these might do you some
good.
But oh no, said the man, I
cannot take,
Such a gift that I did not earn.
For charity I will not
accept,
And I have nothing to give in return.
Joy to the world, the Lord
is come.
On a street in the city one
Christmas day,
Said one who had come from afar,
They want to count our
souls, so we might be taxed,
As he looked up and pondered that star.
From
a place far off, he heard a baby cry,
And the light shown down from
above.
In a stable born, this Holy Gift,
This Gift that was offered in
Love.
But oh no, said the world,
I cannot take,
This Gift which you offer to me.
To forsake our ways, and
all we own,
Is too much to ask, don't you see?
Joy to the world, the Lord
is come.
On a street in the city one
Christmas day,
You may be the one to believe.
To give this Gift from
above, truly offered in Love,
You first must learn how to receive.
And the
Glory shall show in the Truth that you know,
And the Joy that you let your
heart fill.
And the Savior is yours, if you open the doors,
And it's the
Gift that He's offering still.
But oh no, said the world,
I cannot take,
This Gift which you offer to me.
But the Lord in his will
shall keep offering still,
And shall be offering eternally.
But the Lord in his will shall
keep offering still,
Joy to the world,
And shall be offering
eternally.
(The Lord is Come.)
Yes, the Lord in his will shall
keep offering still,
(Joy to the world.,)
And shall be offering
eternally.
